What’s happening at Joshu?

Like many businesses, Joshu has dedicated product, marketing, support, sales, operations, and engineering teams. Even for a small company, that’s a lot of people doing a lot of work. To focus on our customers and deliver our business value, our company must be organized in a structured and efficient way. But it’s not a case of black and white… While we need organization and process to be successful, we also need to balance this with our flexible working style that allows us to move quickly and be creative.

It is ingrained in our culture

Our flexible approach to work manifests in many ways. One of the most obvious is employee willingness to wear multiple hats. Our team believes that we cannot be specialists. To be the best we can be, we must stretch ourselves to fill the gaps.

The secret sauce, the ‘glue’ that connects us, makes us move faster, think consistently out of the box, and be creative, is that our teammates at Joshu are not afraid to roll up their sleeves, put egos aside, and strive to get the best outcome no matter what. We work to be a jack of all trades, even while we are each master of at least one.

We appreciate the specialties each other has when we lean in to assist one another. We also feel more motivated and inspired because we get to be creative in new ways and learn new skills. We’re able to use our learnings to improve our specializations by leveraging newfound perspectives and empathy. That’s how we grow together as a company and as individuals.

Maintaining our culture in a growing org

Of course, we emphasize it constantly when it comes to hiring new talents. This is the core part of our selection process, and we highlight it when new joiners are on board. This is what makes us unique.

When I surveyed our employees this year and asked them what brings them joy at work and what is unique about our workplace: “Feeling we are in this together…”, “Helping someone else…”, and “Doing what’s right no matter what my job definition.”

To every applicant, we give the same message: If you are a team player, enjoy opportunities for creativity, entrepreneurial spirit and excitement, and are willing to get your belly up to the bar and jump in to “get things done,” then Joshu may be a great fit.
